WHO IS CERA?
The Community Education & Resource Affiliation, Inc. (CERA)is a group of Health Care Professionals that have come together with mutual cares and concerns for the Central Florida community.  Together our network of professionals formed a mission to provide education and resources not only to Seniors, but Caregivers and families with specific needs through our annual health fairs, educational seminars and our speakers bureau.

After partnering up with other  organizations in the area,  CERA has quickly grown to be the largest group of health care professionals that meet on a monthly basis and have obtained our 501c3 for the charitable donations given back to the community from our members.  The proceeds for every event CERA holds and every membership paid benefits one of our area meals on wheels providers.

CERA GIVES
I
n the planning stages for 2010, The Community Education and Resource Affiliation, Inc. again sat down for a strategy session with our partners at The Senior Resource Alliance.  We first took a look at what our areas current needs were in the community.  The state budget remains tight, leaving several valuable programs for Seniors and Children looking for alternate ways to receive funding.  With our mission in mind of reaching into the community and providing education and resources where needed, together we set our goals.

1.  Raise enough money through our membership dues, health fairs and forums to present each Meals on Wheels program in the tri-county area (Orange, Osceola and Seminole) with a check for $2000.

2.  Collect enough items (such as gift cards, nick knacks, toiletries, stationary, jewelry, clocks, radios, music, movies, etc.) to give as gifts to all the participants in the Meals on Wheels programs here in Central Florida.

3.  Host our Second Annual Health Forum in addition to our Benefit Forum where the best-of-the-best from Medical Facilities and Large non-for-profit charitable organizations come and speak on Chronic Illnesses such as:  The American Lung Association, The Diabetes Association, Orlando Health's Memory Disorder Clinic, American Cancer Society and more.

First money was raised through our three annual health fairs and membership dues.  Due to the high demand on obtaining current information on benefits and services available in our area, our Second Annual Benefit Forum and our First Annual Health Forum where both successful, both selling out in the first 3 weeks they were announced.  With additional planning, the help of our members and other partners in the community, CERA GIVES kicked into gear in August and collection baskets went up throughout Central Florida.  CERA and SRA hosted our 5th Annual Charitable Giving Party in December and were able to not only give each Program the supplies needed for the Holidays, but surpassed our initial goal of $1000 per county and presented each county Meals on Wheels Program with a $1500 check.  This year we added on a beneficiary with Foster Grandparents and present them with a check as well as Gift Cards to present to their Foster Grandparents.  With the additional private donations given in our name, CERA GIVES raised over $5500 for the Community.

Looking ahead to 2011, our mission remains the same:  To reach out into Central Florida and provide the best networking and education for professionals, Seniors, Caregivers and their families.
